Saccharomyces boulardii is a yeast probiotic, genetically and metabolically distinct from other strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. It is not a natural inhabitant of the human gut but is derived from tropical fruit skins. Primarily, it's used to prevent and treat gastrointestinal disorders like antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD) and traveler's diarrhea. S. boulardii persists longer in the GI tract compared to other strains, modulating gut microbiota, enhancing intestinal barrier function, and producing anti-inflammatory factors. How it works
